STATISTICS
According to the American Cancer Society (ACS) a total of 1,444,920 new cancer cases and 559,650 deaths for cancers are projected to occur in the United States in 2007. The projected number of deaths from cancer for 2007 for men, women, and both sexes in Americans combined is estimated at about 559,650 (approximately 1,500 deaths per day). Cancers of the lung and bronchus, prostate, and colon and rectum in men, and cancers of the lung and bronchus, breast, and colon and rectum in women continue to be the most common fatal cancers. Cancer ranks second only to heart disease in overall deaths of adults in the US.

The lifetime probability of developing cancer is higher for men (45%) than for women (38%), these numbers are staggering; men have a 1 in 2 chance of developing an invasive cancer while women have a 1 in 3 chance.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death among children between ages 1 to 14 years in the United States; accidents are the most frequent cause of death in this age group. The most common cancers in children (aged 0 to 14 years) are leukemia, brain and other nervous system cancers, soft tissue sarcomas, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and renal tumors.
